Alberto Gonzales has been nominated by President Bush to replace John Ashcroft as our nation’s Attorney General. Here are some good reasons for the Democrats in Congress to confirm him:
- When the Bush administration asked him to construct the legal justification for a new US policy of the torturing of POWs, he declined saying, “According to my moral values, a sweeping policy of torture can never be justified.”
- When the Bush administration asked him to disregard the Geneva Convention, he declined saying, “The Geneva Convention is one of the most important treaties the US has ever ratified. War was, is, and always will be Hell, but the rules of civilized warfare are not to be belittled. If we disregard the Geneva convention, even when fighting against those enemies who do not abide by it, we will have reverted to barbarism.”
- Hispanics are biologically better Attorney Generals than anyone else.
Yup, all these would be great reasons. Unfortunately, none of them are true.
