Apple Zealotry Leads to Blindness

And that’s why I stopped being an Apple zealot. I still use and love Macs, but I no longer defend Apple at all costs. They’re a big company, they can fend for themselves.
For the last day or so, I have been attempting to fight the pro-DRM Apple zealots over at the MacRumors forums. In the past, their personal attacks against Jon Johansen have ticked me off, but I’ve remained silent. This time I couldn’t contain myself. Something needed to be done.
This is the thread I’ve been posting to, attempting to convince people that DRM, even if it is the most consumer friendly DRM, is not a good compromise. To many of the regular poster’s credit, we’ve got some good, civilized, and coherent debates going. But there are some posts where my only possible response would get me banned. Here are a few of those posts:

Does [a company being in a different country] stop apple from killing the Super shuffle or the iPod mini ripoff? I think as long as the software is made by an American company, the rights to that American company about security and all that stuff should be international. If it is not, that needs to change.

Yes, but [Jon Johansen] did this, knowing that it was clearly illegal in this country. Just because he found a way to avoid legal responsibility, doesn’t mean that what he did was right.

I don’t care what Apple says [about their lack of profits from the iTunes music store]… you can’t sell, what is it now, 3 million songs and just break even. They have to be making money from it. (this is my opinion, I know you are not going to agree, but don’t try to convince me otherwise)
